To Yale National Park

We left the tea plantation after breakfast and the set off for 5-6 hour drive to Yale National Park where we will spend 3 nights and do two safaris. The prize here is to see a leopard, but there is no certainty that we will see one. Apparently that las sighting reported by anyone staying in our hotel was on January 9th.

Along the route: leaving the Heritage Tea Factory hotel at Nuware Eliya.

Building in Nuware Eliya, racing course and lake

Temples along the route:

Tea pickers aand sellers long the way.

We stopped for lunch at Eliya, a busy town with many restaurants and tourists. Ellya is the end of the railway line from Colombo.

From Ellya on there is some very beautiful countryside.

As we approached Yale, we spotted interesting wildlife including crocodiles, a bee eater and pond herons.

The hotel rooms at Cinnamon Wild are essentially bungalow close to the hotel main building where reception is based, and meals are served.

Having settled in, we ate dinner in the restaurant and then were soon to bed, ready for the alarm to wake us at 0400 for our first safari.
