Cambridge, Broadstairs and Canterbury

We are now on our way home after a 2+ week trip to the UK.

The slot was originally booked in order to catch up with a second cousin of John who lived in Brisbane. Having met them in Australia some years ago, we have managed to catch Lyn and Les several times when then have been in Europe to visit their son and family.

Our first point of call was Cambridge where we prepared the house for sale. Although we had planned to keep it for a few more years, changes in the rental property market in Cambridge persuaded us to sell sooner rather than
later. The house was in good shape from our previous tenants and so preparing for the sale did not take too much effort. We have handed over to an estate agent and await further news with interest.

While in Cambridge, we caught up with several friends over lunch or dinner.

We then continued on to Helen, Nick and the boys in Broadstairs where we stayed for about 10 days. The weather was kind to us and we spent most days on the beach, where there Len enjoyed the roundabouts which are there for the summer and in the park.

While around the beach, we noticed these flying ships

Lyn and Les arrived in Canterbury, while they were between cruises. The first was around Jersey, Ireland and Scotland, departing from and arriving in Dover and the second was from Southampton taking in Iceland, Canada and arriving in New York, before flying back home to Brisbane.

On our first day together we saw Canterbury, where they were staying. After lunch we took a guided tour of the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. The last time we were in the Catherdral was for Helen's graduation.

In the evening, we met at a vey interesting restaurant, the Ambretta. We know it from the Margate branch. While both restaurants have the same menu, the chef's style is different, so we were pleased to try this one too.

The train from Canterbury to Broadstairs takes about 20 minutes, so we had an easy journey back to Helen's.

Lyn and Les picked us up in Broadstairs on the second day, where they met Nick and Ernie and we showed them the sights in the rain.

We then drove on the Leeds Castle where we saw the lovely (wet) grounds followed by the (dry) interior of the castle.

We returned to Broadstairs for a last day with the family before taking the EuroStar from Ashford to Lyon and then a TGV home.
